Welcome to the Home of the NATURE Tool
We are pleased to announce that we have started developing NATURE Tool 2.0 which will be more automated, more adaptable, easier to use and easier to interpret.
The Nature Tool for Urban and Rural Environments (short: NATURE Tool) is a free Excel tool and has been developed to easily assess and manage the natural capital impact of projects and sites. Natural capital captures what nature does for people and is essential for tackling the climate and ecological emergencies as well as improving public health. The NATURE Tool can also be used to effectively demonstrate wider environmental benefits and report net gains for the environment. You can download the tool from the Resources page.
The NATURE Tool has been first released in July 2021 and can be downloaded from the resources page. Since its first release, it has been updated several times and is gaining increasing traction. The NATURE Tool was also Highly Commended at the 2022 CIEEM Awards.
WSP and the Ecosystems Knowledge Network, in collaboration with Northumbria University, co-developed the tool together with over 30 built environment industry and stakeholder partners to assess and implement net gains for the environment at project-scale. The NATURE Tool will not only help to make future land-use more sustainable, but also to enable the built environment sector to play a more positive role by becoming a net-contributor to tackling environmental issues – a potential game-changer.
WSP developed the NATURE Tool together with more than 30 organisations involved in the built environment industry. A tool developed by the industry – for the industry.
